The same ears, start to finish
Your show isn't passed down a line of freelancers. The person who cuts the first episode learns how it should sound, and stays on it.
About · Gravel Road Audio · Acton, CA
We're a small studio in Acton that does one thing — make podcasts sound right — and tries to do it without making a fuss about it.
How it started
Gravel Road started the way most studios do — fixing other people's recordings. A friend's interview show kept sounding like it was taped in a tunnel. We pulled the echo, evened the levels, cut the dead air, and handed it back. They published it. Then their friends called.
The work didn't change much after that, just the number of shows. Business podcasts that need to sound credible. Solo creators who'd rather record than wrestle a DAW. The job is the same every time: make it sound like nobody touched it.
We took the name from the unpaved stretch you drive in on. It's slower, it's quieter, and you notice every bump — which, it turns out, is exactly the right ear for this.
We'd rather tell you the recording can't be saved than charge you to find out the same thing in three days.— How we work
What we hold to
No mission statement on the wall. Just the handful of things that decide how every episode gets handled.
Your show isn't passed down a line of freelancers. The person who cuts the first episode learns how it should sound, and stays on it.
The best edit is one a listener never notices. We chase the version that sounds effortless — which takes the most effort.
If a file's too far gone, we say so before you pay. If a deadline's tight, we tell you honestly whether we can hit it.
Custom intros are built for your show — licensed music and original design, not a stock loop three other podcasts already use.
What it's like to work with us
Plain version
You record however you already record — separate tracks if you have them, one file if you don't. You drop the audio in a shared folder. We do the rest and send back something you can publish that day.
Per-episode work is paid by the episode, no lock-in. Standing shows run on a simple monthly agreement you can pause with notice. We'd rather you stay because the audio's good.
